Well he didn't close the business, but he did fire the annoyance which has meant more work for me, which is no bad thing. Except for when it stopped me going to see Iron Man on opening weekend. Of course I got there in the end, and it turned out that Iron Man was every bit as magnificent as I'd expected it was going to be from the start. In fact I had such ridiculously high expectations that rather than being utterly blown away by the movie as I'm sure I should've been, I was left feeling completely satisfied. It really is a rare beast though, a comic book movie that does absolutely everything right. For that it should be applauded. Roll on Iron Man 2 I say!
Yeah, so that's given that short shrift. Not that I mean to but it's been a long time since last I wrote. To be fair, little has happened; I've worked longer and more consistently, and as a result my work life balance is even more unbalanced than ever. For all that I keep saying I want to run the London Marathon next year, I've done exactly bugger all about it. I work like a demon all week, and at the weekends I am mainly tired, and then we start again. Yestarday is a perfect case in point; I did a nearly 16 hour day starting at 4.30 in the morning, and today I although my day has been easier I'm suffering from yesterday! I'm so tired I didn't think I was gonna make it back again, and to be honest I've little to no recollection of the trip around Birmingham at all!
Still, with things going the way they are, I need all the work I can get.
Yes politics rears it's ugly head again; I didn't vote in the local government elections, not through apathy but through a total dissatisfaction with the choices before me. There should be a box you can tick to say "I'm engaged with the political process but this lot are a bunch of tossers I wouldn't trust with a bag of chocolate buttons let alone the local economy". I'm vaguely wondering if we're watching the beginning of the end here; as fuel and food prices sky-rocket and the economy slows down, isn't this how western civilisation is supposed to collapse, as we find the structures we've made for ourselves are unsustainable? It's all been going in the wrong direction for a long time, we're already well past the place where my parents generational thinking of "man works, woman raises kids" works, but it's rapidly reaching the point where even with both of you working ends aren't meeting, there's simply too much month left when all the money is gone. Our politicians seem complacent, seem to think they've made a world of opportunity and fairness, but they're wrong, oh so very wrong. I'm not saying the world is gonna end tomorrow, not at all, I just wonder if in fifty or a hundred years time will this be seen as the thin end of the wedge?
