Guns Blazing, Drums Of Death
A prize to anyone who can work out why I chose that as the title for today's entry (prize is notional and consists of little more than geek kudos, has zero value for tax purposes, local laws apply).SO, yesterday, the fuel protests, that was what I wanted to talk about. Okay, so, for some background: petrol prices in the UK have just reached insane highs, just over a pound a litre for unleaded (which is a smidge over $12 a gallon for American readers, and even more for Canadian ones). Gordon Brown, our esteemed chancellor in a foolish little bit of PR has called on the OPEC countries to produce more oil to reduce this price, while everybody with any sense has pointed out that Her Majestys treasury actually takes 70% of what we pay at the pumps and that if he really wanted to make fuel more affordable he could just be less of a robbing bastard. Anyway, so yesterday was supposed to be Fuel Protest day. Now last time this happened, five years ago, it'd been a pretty big deal, roads were blocked, fuel supplies were cut off (at least temporarily) and people expected more of the same. Monday and Tuesday saw some frantic panic buying by the panicky masses, and then Wednesday came and... the protest at the UK's main refinery/terminal amounted to two people who got there early, then went home again when nobody else turned up. There are times I think that as a people, the British are so bloody apathetic we deserve whatever hideous torments our government to come up with for us.
Sadly now that I've remembered what I wanted to talk about yesterday I've forgotten what todays topic was going to be, although I'd guess it was probably going to be some sort of sarcastic remarks about something that's happened in the news, or maybe a discussion of the various merits of either a movie or game. Or all of the above. It's even possible it was going to be some sort of document of my sexual adventures, although as I don't have any of those that would look a lot like this:
Except it would go on and on for years, with no end in sight...
