D'oh!
After last nights post I watched Revolutions and it became blindingly clear what Smith is; he's none of the bollocks I was talking about last night, although he IS Neo's opposite in a sense. He's free to do whatever he likes and has power to affect his reality, just as Neo does, but he finds no purpose. He's got a lot of nasty, bitchy little questions which cast doubt on things, but he's essentially got nothing, and he gives it all away when he says that Neo taught him the purpose of all life, to end. Yep, Smith is Nihilism!
